Meetinghouse Gift Shop

Meetingouse Gift Shop
The Belknap Mill is proud to offer the Meetinghouse Gift shop to their guests. The unique and cozy gift shop offers many items of interest for adults and children. When you walk into the lobby, you will be welcomed by the warmth of the bricks, the original wooden beams, soft music, and friendly staff.

Many of the products celebrate the history of our Mill and the region. We have many Cobblestone books for children on a variety of different subjects, activity books, and storybooks set in the 19th century. For the adults, we have books on textiles, local history, mills, as well as books on the local culture such as where to hike, various cookbooks, where to find the best clams in NE, some on Shaker culture, gardening etc.

Once your creative juices are flowing, you can check out the toy section where we have a good selection of old fashioned toys like Jacob’s Ladder, Cup & Ball, Hooey Sticks and Marbles. We also have many Klutz books to inspire the children such as Road Trip Trivia, Knitting, Weaving, Wax Strings, etc.

For fun and whimsy, the Meetinghouse Gift Shop, has many folk art items available. Currently we have rooster weathervanes, solid maple cutting boards in various shapes, sweet snowmen and angels, ceramic loons, quilted items and knitted items, serving trays, all lovingly and expertly made by local artisans.

In our stationery line, we have cards from local artists, postcards with historical themes, the line of Bunty Walsh cards, many featuring artists of the White Mountains in the early 20th Century. You can picture yourself writing special notes to friends by the light of our bobbin accent lamps with pens made from recycled bobbins.

But the most popular item by far is our own line of socks made on Belknap Mill’s vintage Scott & Williams knitting machines. We have Christmas stockings available all year in many different colors for decoration. To really appreciate the craftsmanship and quality of material, try a pair of our cotton, wool, angora, cashmere or other fine socks.

Volunteers have been working at the Belknap Mill year-round to keep the historical knitting machines - some dating back to 80 years ago - in operation. These machines have been producing Christmas stockings, socks, caps, headbands and other products for sale. The Belknap Mill was one of the first knitting factories in America, and we are proud to be carrying on the work and tradition in our own small way.

For more information about any of the items in our shop, please contact the Mill. We hope that you will take the time and come to visit our museum, gallery, gift shop and the various cultural events held throughout the year.
