Our Team

Staff & Volunteers

  • Katherine Switala Elmhurst, PhD

    Acting Executive Director

Katherine serves as Acting Executive Director of the Belknap Mill in a volunteer capacity, bringing more than 25 years of experience in historic preservation, building construction, and building performance. She holds a PhD in Civil Engineering and is a seasoned project manager, educator, and author with a systems-based approach that integrates preservation and sustainability. She has led restoration projects at nationally significant sites, and helped deliver Philadelphia’s first Petal Certified project under the Living Building Challenge. When she’s off the clock, she’s usually snowboarding, paddle boarding, hiking, or on a mission to find the perfect combination of good food and great views.

  • Fabiana McLeod

    Marketing & Programs Coordinator

Fabiana leads the organization’s marketing efforts and develops educational programming inspired by the Mill’s industrial heritage, textile traditions, arts education, and civic identity. With a degree in business management from the University of New Haven, she brings expertise in strategic marketing, social media management, and content creation that increases visibility and community engagement. Fabiana combines creativity with data-driven insight to strengthen the Mill’s public presence, expand audiences, and support the success of its programs and initiatives. When she's not generating content, you can find her camping, traveling, coaching lacrosse, or spending time with friends and family.

  • Kathy Anderson

    Education Coordinator

Kathy has been volunteering at the Belknap Mill since March 2023. A former fourth- and fifth-grade teacher with more than two decades in the classroom, she enjoys bringing the story of the Mill to life for visitors—especially students. Kathy supports the Mill’s educational mission by connecting field trip experiences to New Hampshire History Curriculum standards and developing modules aligned with Next Generation science and technology standards. She also works with teachers at the elementary, middle, and secondary levels to create programs that complement their classroom curriculum.

  • Joyce Keyser

    Fiber Arts Facilitator

Joyce Keyser grew up in Laconia and has witnessed many of the community’s changes since the 1960s. A graduate of Laconia High School, she has spent much of her career working locally and is deeply connected to the region’s agricultural and fiber traditions. In 1997 she married Jeff Keyser, farm manager of Ramblin' Vewe Sheep Farm, where she later developed a passion for working with wool through spinning and felting. Joyce opened the Shepherd's Hut Market at the farm in 2013 and volunteers her time facilitating a fiber arts group at the Belknap Mill. She participates in the New Hampshire Sheep and Wool Festival and other regional fairs.
